WEST POINT
December 4, 1902: "The dead body of Mrs. Mary Jane Shephard, wife of Sylvanus Shephard, assistant keeper of the West Point lighthouse was found upon the beach by her husband Friday evening. It is believed that the woman, while despondent, drowned herself." (Aberdeen Herald)
December 4, 1913: "Boatmen are searching today for the body of James E. Shaw, assistant keeper of the West Point lighthouse, who was drowned in Salmon bay last night.
Returning to the lighthouse in an open power boat with his wife and 3-year-old son, Shaw fell overboard as he tripped while trying to repair his engine." (The Seattle Star)
