DESTRUCTION ISLAND
April 7, 1892: "S.I. Kimball, superintendent of the United States life-saving service writes Congressman Wilson as follows: I understand that a lighthouse and fog signal at Destruction island are approaching completion." (Aberdeen Herald)
March 6, 1904: "The Destruction island station was struck by lightning in a recent thunder storm in that vicinity and pretty badly smashed up. The Columbine will look into the damage done and make arrangements for repairing it." (Port Townsend Leader)
July 28, 1911: "The frame building used as a fog signal station on Destruction Island, south of Cape Flattery, will soon give way to a concrete building. The announcement has just been made by the lighthouse department. The siren at that point will also be changed from steam to compressed air." (The San Juan Islander)
